Marie L. Bohle

Marie L. Bohle, 90, of Dubuque and formerly of Sumner, died Monday, March 2, 2015, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek, 2029 Viking Ave. Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Kristian Kincaid officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015, at the church and for one hour preceding services on Saturday. Memorials may be made in her name to a charity of the donor’s choice. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting Marie’s family.

Marie Louise, daughter of Herman and Hulda (Knoploh) Zell, was born June 12, 1924 near Buck Creek in rural Sumner, Iowa. She was baptized June 22, 1924 and confirmed April 10, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church Buck Creek. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1942 and received her normal teaching certificate. On June 15, 1945, she was united in marriage with Arnold Bohle at St. John Lutheran Church Buck Creek. The couple lived and farmed in the Sumner area for many years prior to moving to Milan, Missouri where they farmed for seven years. Marie was always eager to help with the farm work. They then moved to Dubuque, Iowa where they lived for thirty years. Marie volunteered at Finley Hospital in Dubuque for many years. She loved quilting, always had a big garden, was very involved in her church, ladies aid, taught Sunday School, was a den mother, and enjoyed baking bread and making pies. Most especially, she loved her family which provided her great strength.

In addition to her husband Arnold of Fayette, she is survived by her children; Daniel (Anne) Bohle of Cortez, Colorado, Wendell (Diane) Bohle of Sumner, her son-in-law Jeffrey Werner of Stockton, Illinois, Terry (Susan) Bohle of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Mark (Becky) Bohle of Cresco, Jeffrey (Connie) Bohle of Epworth, Bradley (Mary) Bohle of Milan, Missouri, and Thomas (Stacy) Bohle of Clinton; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Geneva Buhr of Sumner and Barbara (Arlin) Ness of Anthem, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her daughter; Rebecca Werner; her son, Randall Bohle; her parents; and one sister, Lorraine Stephens.

What can we say that hasn't already been said? We were so saddened to hear of Marie's death. What a lovely lady , wonderful friend and the best neighbor ever. I will certainly miss our summers sitting out on her front stoop of the house. She was a great listener and such a great encourager. She always seemed to have the answers. We talked and laughed a lot and when Arnold would come around to " sit in" on our talks I would tell him we were talking about "women things" and he would just smile and take off !
We lived next door for 21 years in Dubuque . She was like a mother to me and I especially enjoyed our talks about the LORD. I will miss her. Kim
